I have not dedicated a post to ASSEFA ITALY, the Gandhian NGOs with a number of integrated and sustainable development projects in over eight states of India and I work with for years. Remedy now introducing some more ...
L ' ASSEFA has its roots in the movement Bhoodan ("gift of the earth") initiated by a supporter of Gandhi, Vinoba Bhave , a great spiritual teacher and philosopher. Vinoba and his supporters walked through India for 14 years and, by appealing to landowners that they donassero part to the poor peasants without resources, they managed to collect about 4 million acres scattered in every region of India.
However, the lands were donated mostly arid and rocky: a lot of work needed to make farmers and peasants did not have the resources to invest in this venture. Some operators Sarvodaya understood that without external support, the "gift of land "would be ineffective to change the fate of the poor. They then organized themselves to provide funding, manpower and technical support to beneficiary families, so as to enable them to start working the land received as a gift.
It was from this idea that in 1969, was born ASSEFA . Initially ASSEFA about helping farming families to begin cultivating the land Bhoodan and subsequently extended its activity also in the areas of health and school, promoting initiatives to ensure the welfare of all members of the community.
Since the development of land Bhoodan ASSEFA and collaboration between the Italian groups was very intense. The interest in the Gandhian philosophy of nonviolence that characterizes ASSEFA programs, has helped enhance mutual understanding and sharing among the Italian groups and friendly staff ASSEFA.
harmony among the people (Sarvodaya) and harmony with nature (sustainability): the ASSEFA put into practice in rural India, the model development of a integrated. "Sarva" means "all" and "Udaya" means "well being": not only the welfare of an individual or a community but both self-realization through the pursuit of health for all.
The ASSEFA was anticipated that more and more ideas are accepted and developed in a world with limited resources where democracy must necessarily be based on the combination of 'ecology - fairness'.
